Urolithin A Shows Potential to Boost Muscle Endurance and Strength
This study investigated the effects of Urolithin A, a compound produced when gut bacteria break down certain foods, on muscle performance in male athletes. Over 8 weeks, the athletes who took Urolithin A showed improvements in muscle endurance and strength while also benefiting from reduced inflammation and oxidative stress. The study suggests that Urolithin A could be a promising supplement for supporting muscle function and recovery, particularly during resistance training and endurance sports.
My thoughts: Urolithin A is a compound produced by gut bacteria when you eat certain foods, and it's also found in pomegranates. Research on Urolithin A is unusually diverse—studies in mice have shown it can reverse hearing loss, improve memory, and even cure some infections. Human research is growing, mainly focused on its anti-aging, however its potential for improving physical performance is already starting to look convincing. Definitely one to watch!
Study Confirms High-Quality Creatine, Free from Harmful Contaminants
This study analyzed the safety of dietary creatine, commonly used by athletes in power sports like sprinting and bodybuilding, by examining its effects on carcinogenic biomarkers in a large sample of adults. Findings indicate that modern creatine supplements are safe and free from damaging contaminants, as no harmful changes in biomarkers were observed. This aligns with current industry standards, reassuring athletes and fitness enthusiasts about the quality of creatine products on the market today.
My thoughts: There are a number of brands claiming that some creatine sources are contaminated. Having run tests on many sources, I can confidently say today’s creatine is high quality across the board. Cryo-Facial Masks Enhance Running Performance in Amateur Athletes
This study explored the effects of cryo-facial masks—cold therapy applied to the face—on running performance in amateur middle-distance runners. The results showed a potential improvement in running performance, suggesting that the cooling effect may help reduce the negative impacts of heat stress during running. Whether it’s due to physiological effects or simply the placebo effect, the findings highlight an interesting recovery tool that athletes may find enjoyable and beneficial.
My thoughts: Who would have thought a cold face massage would do anything to improve running performance. Maybe it’s the placebo effect, but either way, it feels great!
